Jeff Egan was elected to Blue Mountains City Council in September 1995 and served as a Councillor and Deputy Mayor until his retirement in 2004.

During his time on council Jeff Egan was a highly regarded and respected member of the community, topping the primary vote at both the 1995 and 1999 general council elections.

His major achievements include:

• The construction of a network of footpaths to link the townships of Mt Riverview, East Blaxland and Glenbrook to the Blaxland business district and Train Station

• The upgrading of the Blaxland and Glenbrook central business districts

• Obtaining record expenditure on roads in the Ward 4 area

• The installation of new and safer playground equipment in all the major parks throughout Ward 4

• Introduction of a free bulk rubbish collection service for residences

During his time on council Jeff Egan was also either involved with or provided financial support to various community groups including; the Glenbrook Cricket Club, Glenbrook Swimming Club, Blaxland Soccer Club, Blaxland Neighbourhood Centre, Springwood Loins Club, Riding for the Disabled, Migrant Support Service as well as numerous other charities.
